Core Tip: Maurice St-Laurent is recalling their butter from the marketplace in Canada for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Maurice St-Laurent is recalling their butter from the marketplace in Canada for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

The recalled product was sold in Quebec at the retail level. It is St Laurent brand butter in 454 gram packages, with code 156 074 and UPC number 0 62260 00454 9.

If you purchased this product do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double bagged package, or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund. Then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria, since Listeria can grow at refrigerator temperatures and freezing doesn’t kill it.

If you ate this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, serious headache, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild illness similar to the flu, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage, premature labor, stillbirth, and infection in the newborn.
