Caesar’s Pasta or New Jersey is recalling about 46,810 pounds of beef meatball products because they contain egg, one of the major food allergens, that is not declared on the label. Anyone who is allergic to egg could have a serious reaction if they eat this product. No reactions or any issues have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The meatballs were produced between November 1, 2015 and November 30, 2017. The recalled products are 10-pound boxes containing 0.5-ounce pieces of “Schiff’s ITALIAN BRAND MEAT BALLS,” labeled with lot code 70033SH; 10-pound boxes containing 1-ounce pieces of “Schiff’s ITALIAN BRAND MEAT BALLS,” labeled with lot code 70034SH; and 10-pound boxes containing 1.5-ounce pieces of “Schiff’s ITALIAN BRAND MEAT BALLS,” labeled with lot code 70035SH. These products all have the establishment number “EST. 5498” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to food service locations in Pennsylvania.
The problem was discovered when the establishment’s customer noticed that egg was not listed on the ingredient statement. All ingredients in a product have to be listed on the ingredient label, and a warning about any potential allergens must also be on the package.
If you bought any of these products and are allergic to egg, do not eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Symptoms of an allergic reaction can vary from tingling of the lips and mouth, to hives, difficulty swallowing, a skin rash, or difficulty breathing. If you experience any of these reactions after eating these products, see your doctor.
