Kelvin Remen, policy and advocacy manager at the Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA), revealed that more than 500 fruit and vegetable growers have benefited from the online system that enables farmers to access market information through mobile phones.

Under the system vegetable, fruit and spices farmers get access to market information in 18 different regions as well as outside Tanzania. Remen said that since most vegetable and fruit farmers face difficulties in accessing the market, the system will help them to know all the market aspects as well as the price of products.

Remen explained that the system - established in 2015 - has improved services, as farmers can directly communicate with buyers. Previously, farmers were using middlemen to reach markets and buyers.

TAHA marketing manager Reuben Hizza said the main objective of establishing such a system was to enable farmers and stakeholders to benefit more from the horticulture business by selling their goods at competitive prices.
