A pruning branch windrower to save on time and costs

Core Tip: Moving branches and pruning clippings is easier with the right tools.
Moving branches and pruning clippings is easier with the right tools. The Italian Calderoni company is now offering an add-on for the pruning chopper. This is the pruning wheel (or, more correctly, the pruning branch rake). It consists of a large brush that is hydraulically operated and conveys the pruning residues from the under-row to the core, so that the flail mower can do its job in the best possible way.

The grass-cutter and the branch-cutter are used at two different times. The flail mower is mainly used at the end of winter, after pruning, in order to bring the cut branches into the reach of the flail mower. The mower wheel, on the other hand, is used at other times for mowing the grass on the row.

As per Calderoni's philosophy, the entire structure is very solid, made to last. The electronics are just as much as is needed, true to the motto that “what isn't there, won't fail.”

"The tests we carried out were to our satisfaction," says a farmer who bought it, "but we had no doubts. We have been working with Calderoni for many years, and the previous mulcher has worked nonstop for more than 20 years, without ever breaking down; we replaced it only to have a more modern, high-performance machine with the accessories we were interested in."

The shredder purchased by the Cesena-based company has a central three-point hitch with an extension rod for greater stability as well as the ability to move the attachment sideways. The hydraulic inter-row mower disc has an automatic spring-loaded plant spacer, leaf spring oscillating movement, manual ditch tilt and tractor-independent hydraulics.

"This disc proved to be excellent," concluded the farmer, "in hilly terrain like ours. It adapts to uneven ground, cutting the grass very close to the trunk without ruining it.
