There is already a similar offer in Osnabrück where customers can bring their own packaging, which is then placed on a tray on the scale and filled by the employees of the counter without touching the can. Customers seal the can themselves, so the method is hygienic. Again, there is the possibility to buy cans locally, if you have none of your own.
Mechthild Möllenkamp, the owner of the branch in Osnabrück, talks about the initial skepticism of the customers. "In the meantime, the offer is well received," says Möllenkamp. "But still, the proportion of customers using the offer is only about 10 percent."
The entrepreneur wants to continue her pioneering work in sustainability in the future. Although the fruit and vegetables already have the option to dispense with plastic, the salad bar still needs improvement.
She is not averse to the idea of reusable plastic cans if you should meet her with a good offer. Until that happens, she continues to stick to her method.
