Russia’s phytosanitary watchdog has expressed concern over the increase in quarantined objects among tomatoes from Turkey. This was stated by the deputy head of the Rosselkhonadzor, Yulia Shvabauskiene, at a meeting with the trade adviser of the Embassy of the Turkish Republic in Russia Feridun Basher, held in Moscow on August 16, 2018.
"525 infected lots of products were revealed during the expired period of 2018. The leaders in the number of infected parties were tomatoes - 152 cases of detection. In this regard, the Russian side noted the emergence of a negative trend consisting in an increase in the number of shipments of products contaminated with quarantine organisms to Russia.”
According to fruitnews.ru, the Russian representative suggested increasing the laboratory control on exported goods.
Rosselkhonadzor has also begun re-testing mushrooms from the "Mushroom Country" farm in the Republic of Belarus, due to suspicions of re-export. During a primary audit, conducted on August 1, information on the volumes and yields of mushroom production appeared to be contradictory.
Earlier, there were reports that as of July 24th the import of mushrooms into Russia would be banned. But last week, Rosselkhoznadzor allowed the import of mushrooms by three Belarussian firms.
