Den Berk Délice is following Tomeca's lead and is increasingly opting to switch to paper packing solutions. According to Pierre van Nederkassel of the Dutch Optimum Group, it is a trend that is gaining momentum. "We're getting more and more requests for flexible packaging solutions. And the Belgian tomato grower Den Berk Délice has now also chosen the Ravenwood packaging solution for its Miss Perfect tomatoes," he says.

Another Belgian tomato growing company, Tomeco, recently bought a Ravenwood machine. It can now pack its tomatoes entirely mechanically in linerless Fruit Lid Ravenwood labels. "The folks at Den Berk Délice saw how satisfied Tomeco was with this Ravenwood packaging solution, so they decided to contact us too. Den Berk Délice wanted a mono-packaging with space to communicate to consumers while keeping the product (the Miss Perfect tasty tomatoes) sufficiently visible. And they wanted to use the packaging in a machine."

The Belgian company, Ulma Packaging, supplied the machine. "We then supplied the labels on rolls which are placed on the machine automatically. With these Ravenwood Linerless Fruit Lid labels, they can now process 50 to 60 packs per minute," says Pierre. Plus, these are circular and fully recyclable. "They contain, as the word 'Linerless' implies, no liner or backing paper. That allows for up to 40% more labels per roll and significantly less waste during the production process, as even the die-cut waste is recyclable."

"The Optimum Group produces these Ravenwood linerless labels and, thanks to our experience in linerless labels, can give spot-on support when these kinds of labels are being implemented. The Ravenwood NOBAC labeling machines label products sold in supermarkets which must project the correct image. Our printing techniques and production methods are specially designed to meet those high-quality requirements," Pierre concludes.
