After a seven year absence, Argentine oranges will soon re-enter the Chinese market. On Thursday, the Argentine National Department of Agriculture announced that a company called Trébol Pampa in Concordia, Entre Ríos, had dispatched a container loaded with 22 tons of citrus, destined for the Shanghai Port.

According to the Argentine media outlet, Enfiteuta, this is the first time since 2010 that the country has exported soft citrus products to China. CECNEA Executive Director Mariano Caprarulo said that for various reasons, the export to China has been mostly oranges and their successful export has had a historical significance.

According to official data, citrus production in the three northeastern provinces of Argentina provides more than 20,000 jobs for the fruit picking industry and the sorting and packaging industry. According to the Argentine Ministry of Agriculture, Argentina exported 39,973 tons of oranges in 2017, with Russia as the main export destination, followed by the Philippines and Canada.
