 ANUTEC Ingredients India will make its debut alongside PackEx India, Food Logistics India and ANUTEC International FoodTec India, the concurrent events to the 13th essay of Annapoorna World of Food India, which will take place at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, between September 27 and 29, 2018. Annapoorna World of Food India, by virtue of its increasing quality among exhibitors and visitors alike, has paved the way as a sought-after trade fair in the country.

Parallel events
• International FoodService India: It is an international exhibition for retailing, in-flight, rail, ship, hotel and event catering
• ANUTEC International FoodTec India: It is an international supplier fair for the food and drink industry
• ANUTEC Ingredients India: This is an international ingredient and nutraceutical show for the food and drink industry
• PackEx India: This in an international exhibition on packaging material and technology
• Food Logistics India: This is an international exhibition on logistics and warehousing for the food and drink industry

Co-located events
The concurrent events, all of which will be packed over three days, are expected to attract the who’s who of food trade business, not only from India, but also from the entire South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region.

Apart from group participation from members of the Forum of Indian Food Importers (FIFI), who will form a FIFI Pavilion, even the governments of various Indian states have used this platform to not only promote products from their states, but also to create new business opportunities for Indian and international companies. State governments will also use this platform to host the flagship Make in India campaign.

This trade fair will be jointly organised by Koelnmesse YA Tradefair Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of Koelnmesse GmbH, Germany (which organises Anuga, ISM, etc.) and the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), one of the largest industry associations in India.

Mukhtar Pathan, senior project manager, Koelnmesse YA Tradefair Pvt Ltd, said, “The country pavilions representing Australia, Brazil, China, Italy, Korea, Poland and Turkey, and the individual participation from 13 countries, apart from the Indian participation, clearly indicates the confidence of the food and beverage industry not only from India, but also worldwide.”

“With its innovative concurrent events, like the Annapoorna Food Retail Awards powered by Amul, CEO Roundtable Discussions, industry-specific seminars by FICCI, business-to-business (B2B) meetings, masterclasses for cooking and wine tasting by FoodFood TV will create a complete business platform for retailers, hotels and restaurants, food importers, airlines and other allied industries,” he added.

Pathan said, “The theme of Annapoorna – World of Food India is Taste the Success and exploring the possibilities of making India a global food trade business hub.”

Highlights
“The Annapoorna Food Retail Awards, powered by Amul, will be jointly organised with the Retailer’s Association of India (RAI). After getting an overwhelming response in its inaugural edition, the second essay is going to be bigger and better with the introduction of new segments of nominations like Food Services Aggregator of the Year, Private Label Food Retailer of the Year, Tech Adoption Food Retailer of the Year and Food Retailer of the Year – Multiple Format. The Annapoorna Food Retail Awards will have over 1,000 delegates from retail, food, food importers, restaurants, hotels and others,” Pathan said.

The winners of the Annapoorna Food Retail Awards 2017 were 24 by Seven for Supermarket of the Year; Spencer’s Retail and Reliance Smart (joint winners) for Hypermarket of the Year; KFC and Natural’s Ice Cream (joint winners) for quick service restaurant (QSR) chain of the year; Jonah’s Bistro for Restaurant of the Year, and Damodar Mall from Reliance Retail Ltd for Food chief executive officer (CEO) of the Year.

The jury for this edition of the Annapoorna Food Retail Awards will comprise chefs Imtiaz Qureshi, Hemant Oberoi, Gautam Mehrishi, Harpal Singh Sokhi and Sanjay Malkani; Chamari Rodrigo, consul general, Sri Lanka; Amit Lohani, president, FIFI; Anil Talreja, partner, Deloitte India; Kumar Rajagopalan, chief executive officer, RAI; R S Sodhi, managing director, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) (Amul), Marja-Sirkka Einig, deputy consul-general, Consulate General of Federal Republic of Germany, and Gerald Boese, president and chief executive officer, Koelnmesse GmbH, to name a few.

RAI will be organising an industry-focussed CEO Round Table. This will be an opportunity to meet the industry leaders, not only from India, but also from the international food retail sector. The previous edition of the CEO Round Table witnessed the participation of Mall, Sokhi, K Radhakrishnan, co-founder, Grocermax; Ramesh Menon, chief executive officer, HyperCity Retail (India) Ltd, Sadashiv Nayak, chief executive officer, Big Bazaar, and Shitij Agrawaal, chief executive officer, Sahyadri Agro Retails Ltd.

The masterclasses, which will be organised by FoodFood TV channel, will be hosted by celebrity chefs Shailendra Kekade, Anupa Das, Juhi, Vaniitha Jaiin and Shantanu Gupte.

Exhibitors
“The show is expected to have over 275 exhibitors from India and overseas, with various country pavilions. In fact, it is anticipated that over 50 per cent of the exhibitors will be from overseas,” Pathan said.

Visitors
Pathan said, “With the increased number of exhibitors, including country pavilions and individual participation, various activities have been planned to create a complete business platform for the food trade industry. The exhibition is expected to have over 9,000 trade visitors in three days.”

Pavilions
There will be official country pavilions from Australia, Brazil, China, Italy, Korea, New South Wales, Poland and Turkey, apart from individual participation from over 13 countries.

Seminars and conferences
FICCI will organise a seminar on various issues pertaining to growth of this industry and food safety regulations on September 27. It will be titled Investment opportunities in the food processing sector and unravelling global food trends.

RAI will also address various issues for the sustainable growth and development of the retail trade in India through its seminar, titled Food Imports Regulations – Licensing, Duties and Procedures. It will take place on September 28.

Indian food and beverage market

Pathan said, “The Indian food industry is worth $13.56 billion. The growth rate of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) is 7.1 per cent. The country’s popular is over 1.3 billion. The organised sector is growing at a fast pace and is expected to increase to 25 per cent of the total retail trade by 2020. India is expected to become the world’s third-largest consumer economy, reaching $400 billion in consumption by 2025.”

Challenges faced by the food and beverage industry in India
Pathan said, “A rapidly-growing young population, rising income levels, increasing use of technology in consumer space, urbanisation, brand and style awareness, health consciousness, increased social media activity, hectic life routines, etc., have led to a shift in consumers’ food buying habits.”

With a population of 1.3 billion, India is one of the largest consumer markets globally. Demographically, it is also one of the youngest markets, with over 45 per cent of its population being under the age of 30, and there is fast-moving urbanisation.

The industry is facing some challenges like:
• No added preservatives
• Healthy and organic products
• Functional food
• Going green
• Government regulations
• Waste generation
• Safety needs and regulatory compliance

Annapoorna World of Food India is jointly organised by FICCI, one of the most important trade bodies for the Indian industry. It has been actively involved in making policy changes as well as suggestions and reports on various industries.

RAI represents the entire retail industry in the country. The various activities and seminars organised during the exhibition will address the pertaining issues/challenges faced by the food and beverage industry in India.
