Assets to be acquired by Cal-Maine Foods are set to complement its commercial shell egg production, processing, distribution, and sales business.
Cal-Maine Foods chairman and CEO Dolph Baker said: “We are pleased to announce the acquisition of the Featherland Egg Farms assets. This transaction is consistent with our strategy to expand our business through selective acquisitions.
“It is located near many of our other locations and major market areas in south Texas, and we intend to capitalise on specific market opportunities created by this additional production capacity.
“We look forward to the opportunity to extend our market reach and deliver greater value to both our customers and shareholders.”
Acquired assets will also include processing facilities with the capacity for about 600,000 laying hens.
Furthermore, Cal-Maine will acquire a feed mill, as well as related production and distribution facilities near Marion, Texas.
The transaction is expected to close over the next few weeks.
Cal-Maine Foods is engaged in the production, grading, packing and sale of fresh shell eggs, including conventional, cage-free, organic and nutritionally enhanced eggs.
As one of the major producers of shell eggs in the US, the company distributes its products across the south-western, south-eastern, mid-western and mid-Atlantic regions of the country.
In March last year, Cal-Maine Foods acquired all the assets of Happy Hen Egg Farms, as well as capacities relating to commercial production, processing, distribution and sales.
