Global confectionery company Ferrero USA has announced plans to expand its industrial facility located in Franklin Township, Somerset, New Jersey.

The $9m expansion will see an additional 67,000ft² of packaging and warehousing space, as well as the creation of nearly 100 jobs.

Ferrero North America president and CEO Paul Chibe said: “We are proud to do business in Franklin Township, and we’re thrilled to be expanding our existing operations here.”

More than $12m has been invested into the Somerset facility since 2016 in order to launch its Kinder Joy product, which was previously only available outside of North America.

Ferrero USA launched Kinder Joy in November 2017, and since then the company is reported to have sold more than 90 million units. The success of Kinder Joy in the US has led to an additional $9m investment this year.

Ferrero entered the US market in 1969 by introducing Tic Tac breath mints. The company currently offers a wide range of products including Ferrero Rocher pralines, Nutella hazelnut spreads, and the Fannie May and Harry London chocolate brands.

With distribution in more than 170 countries, the company has committed to source only 100% certified sustainable cocoa by 2020.
