The situation on the Austrian table potato market has remained virtually unchanged for weeks. A manageable supply, is contrasted with a seasonally easy but steady domestic demand. In principle, the export market should continue to be very receptive, but given the below-average crop yield, it will not be the buyers who will control events.
Stable producer prices
Supply from farmers is running smoothly. At this time, priority is given to lots with a limited shelf life. Producer prices are stable at last week's levels. In Lower Austria and Upper Austria, potatoes are usually going for €22 per 100 kg. For lots of above-average sorting, prices are €18 to 22 per 100 kg. For wire worm-free, small packable premium goods with AMA quality label, prices of up to €24 per 100 kg can be achieved.
Onion market well balanced
The Austrian onion market is largely unchanged from the previous week. A sufficiently goods supply saw quiet but steady domestic sales. With the beginning of the pre-Christmas business, however, some momentum should return to the domestic market in the coming weeks.
The situation on the export markets is pleasing enough. With a persistently brisk demand, higher prices can be achieved than on the domestic market. There is no change in producer prices compared to the week before. For onions, cleaned and sorted in the box, prices are usually between €28 and 32 per 100 kg, depending on quality and size.
Below average carrot harvest
The Lower Austrian Carrot Market continues to be fairly balanced. At slightly cooler temperatures, the harvesting for storage products is progressing rapidly. In the next 14 days, the harvest should be largely completed. The quality is satisfactory so far. In terms of yield, the starting point is a below-average crop yield. Producer prices are stable at the last week's level.
