Core Tip: The potato market has recently been depressed.
The potato market has recently been depressed. The supply from production areas and wholesale markets is slow and does not show any improvement. Data from Sublime China Information (SCI) shows that the price of potatoes from cold storage in Shandong continues to fall. The price in other areas in north, northeast, and northwest China remains stable. Sellers and buyers are caught in a deadlock. The overall sales volume is relatively small and the warehouses absorb potatoes at a slow rate.

Zhang Min, a data analyst at SCI, explains that the overall price of vegetables has been low in the last two months. The current low position of the vegetable price is due to colder temperatures. The vegetable supply gradually changes to winter mode. The supply volume of off-season vegetables slowly increases. The price decrease is limited and is likely to recover later in the season.

The pressure on the potato supply will remain in the short term as vegetable production areas in south China gradually enter their peak period. It is difficult to say when the sales volume of potatoes will increase.
