Since the signing of a trade agreement between Lao IDP Rice Processing Company and China Food Corporation in November, Laos has achieved its rice export target to China this month. Government agreed to purchase 20,000 tons of rice through the Laos Xuanye Company in mid-last year, but as of October, Xuanye had exported only 16,800 tons of rice to China. Khemmani Pholsena, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Laos, said Xuanye first exported 1,000 tons of rice and will export the remaining 2,200 tons of rice by the end of this month. The government plans to export more rice and other agricultural products to China in the near future. In 2017, the export value of Laos rice exceeded $31.16 million, and its main export markets included Vietnam, Thailand and China.
