It is the responsibility of one to know the quality of the foods one takes in everyday life. This was stated by Dr P Manjari, medical director, Institute of Preventive Medicine, and chief guest at the inaugural programme of Annoor Envirochem and Food Analytical Laboratory, which took place at Siddhartha College of Pharmaceutical Science, Vijayawada.
She added that the manufacturers of food and soft drinks should follow the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011, and get the products tested as per the same.
Annoor Envirochem and Food Analytical Laboratory has been accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). Excess food colour, preservative, pesticide remains, nutrition values, mineral water and drinking water can be tested at the lab, which is the first of its kind in the state.
S K Ansar, the facility’s managing director, said that tests were conducted under expert supervision. He added, “For food tests, people used to go all the way to Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Now they can get the tests done in Vijayawada.”
