Mongolia's Central Veterinary Laboratory reported on Jan 14 that there were 4 cases of African swine plague in 4 provinces of the country. Orhon Aymag had 250 pigs died of African swine fever.
According to the Central Veterinary Laboratory of Mongolia, the four provinces in which African swine fever occurs are Bulgan Aymag, Orhon Aymag, Dundgovǐ Aymag and Central Provinces. The relevant departments of Mongolia have issued urgent instructions to four provinces to take all necessary measures to control the spread of the epidemic. Emergency measures have been taken, including delimiting the epidemic blockade zone, prohibiting all pigs and related products from flowing out of the blockade zone, and prohibiting pigs from entering the blockade zone.
African swine fever is an acute, hemorrhagic and severe infectious disease caused by African swine fever virus (ASFV). It is characterized by high fever, severe bleeding in internal organs and high mortality. The World Organisation for Animal Health classifies African swine fever as a class A animal epidemic. African swine fever is not a zoonotic disease, the virus will not infect humans.
