Yesterday, a container with 2,400 ten-kilo boxes of dried plums without pit of the D'Agen variety, which is bound for the United Arab Emirates, departed from Mendoza to the port of Dubai.
According to the ProMendoza Foundation, the shipment belongs to the Pietrelli Prunes company, which stocking its products in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the Gulfood fair, which will be held in February 2019 in Dubai.
Mario Lazzaro, the managing director of ProMendoza, highlighted the importance of "having the product available when the business comes up in markets that have long transit times."
"In addition to improving access to all the countries of the Arabian Gulf, having a logistics hub in Dubai opens a gateway to the United Arab Emirates," said the executive.
This allows having a greater fluidity with foreign buyers, who can even buy 20 or 30 boxes without having to think about importing a complete container, which can be financially better.
Dubai is one of the seven emirates that make up this Federation, with a population of 10 million inhabitants. "More than 30% of the population is made up of European, Canadian, and Latin professionals and their food consumption customs are very similar to ours, which allows us to incorporate products, such as wine, that are unthinkable in the Arab culture," Lazzaro added.
"In addition, the Emirates are big consumers of spices, oregano, walnuts, almonds, and dates, so we see great commercial opportunities for our food companies," stated Fernando Urdaniz, the manager of ProMendoza.
