The Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance announced that their border office in Zabaykalsky Krai inspected a 19-ton shipment of apples that came from China on January 15th, 2019. The inspection showed that the apples were contaminated with the oriental fruit moth (Grapholitha molesta Busck).
The result of the initial inspection was confirmed by specialists. The shipment was then refused entry in accordance with regulations.
The federal service reported 8 instances of contaminated fruit from China in the last year. The overall volume of contaminated fruit reached 60 tons.
