Plant protein manufacturer Parabel USA has finalised a distribution agreement with CK Ingredients for the commercialisation of Lentein plant protein in Canada’s nutraceutical sector.
Since 1994, CK has been providing functional and nutritional ingredients to Canadian consumers. It distributes the ingredients to leading food, beverage and nutraceutical customers across the country.
Parabel vice president of global sales Habbo de Vaere said: “CK are the perfect match for us. They are established in Canada, where Lentein just received full regulatory approval, and they serve the industries Parabel is operating in.”
Lentein protein is drawn from a water lentil called Lemnoideae.
This protein ingredient is claimed to contain the highest levels of essential amino acids of all plant protein, is non-GMO, free of major allergens and sustainable.
A few months ago, Parabel announced the development of its second facility in Vero Beach, Florida.
The facility is expected to become operational by June and will annually produce up to 3500t of protein.
In addition to distributing the complete range of Lentein plant protein ingredients to the nutraceutical sector, CK will add its expertise in areas such as application development, regulatory, logistics and traceability.
CK Ingredients president Michael Chernyak said: “Parabel’s innovative Lentein plant protein perfectly complements our existing raw material portfolio. In today’s marketplace, novel plant protein sources are experiencing strong demand and our clients are always looking for ways to differentiate themselves on-shelf and online. The timing of this partnership with Parabel could not be better.”
