Cargill plans to invest $20 million (Rs 140 crore) to set up a greenfield premix plant in Tathed Village of Rajasthan’s Kota District. The plans were shared at a meeting between the Cargill team, led by Imre Havasi, managing director of the company’s animal nutrition business in India, and senior officials of the Government of Rajasthan, including Subodh Agarwal, additional chief secretary, industries, and Gaurav Goyal, commissioner, investment and NRIs.

Cargill has strategically chosen the state of Rajasthan to build this state-of-the-art plant, and strives to partner in its growth by bringing its global expertise in food and agriculture production to the state, as it is one of the more progressive states in the country and offers a good business environment, availability of quality raw materials, required talent and a strong customer base.

The facility, which will be built on 15 acre of land, will feature a monthly manufacturing capacity of 7,500 tonne of animal nutrition products and supplements to serve customers in the state, the whole of North India and also export markets.

Cargill’s proposed investment supports the development of the industry, farmers and communities in and around Kota. It will also help the animal husbandry sector, including livestock farmers, by generating over 150 jobs in the region, with both direct and indirect employment in the next three to five years.

“As Cargill continues to expand and grow its business in the region, we recognise that India is an important and fast-growing feed market,” Havasi said, adding, “The company appreciates the Rajasthan government’s support to help it bring its technical know-how in animal nutrition to customers, the industry and this community through our new pre-mix facility here.”

Cargill Animal Nutrition is a global business unit within Cargill and represents an organisation of over 23,000 employees with 280 facilities in 40 countries, serving customers in over 100 countries.

In India, Cargill’s animal nutrition business serves dairy, poultry, shrimp and fish farmers with value-added products and services in almost every state. Cargill sells its products under some of the best-known animal health and nutrition brands like Bestmin Gold, UTPP and G-promin.

“This investment is part of Cargill’s $240 million commitment made in November 2017 through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI),” said Simon George, president, Cargill India.

“This demonstrates our commitment to growing the agriculture and food processing industry in India, while also supporting Indian government’s initiatives of helping farmers earn higher remuneration,” he added.
