B&G Foods is voluntarily recalling 1,280 cases of a single date code of 40 ounce jars of their Victoria Marinara Sauce, because the product may contain cashew (nut) allergens that are not declared on the label. Nuts are one of the eight major food allergens the government has specified. One person has reported an allergic reaction after eating the sauce. This product is not harmful to anyone who is not allergic to tree nuts.

The recalled product is Victoria Marinara Sauce in 40 ounce containers. The UPC number on the product is 0-70234-00411-2 and the best by date, on the glass jar toward the bottom, is 03/06/2022.

After receiving the consumer complaint, the company initiated the recall. Their investigation indicated the possible presence of cashew allergens in this specific product with that best by date.

If you purchased this product and are allergic to cashews, don’t eat it. Discard the product in the garbage, or return it to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

The symptoms of an allergic reaction can vary, depending on the severity. Symptoms may be mild or more severe, and can lead to serious problems.
Early symptoms can include itching and tingling in the mouth, tongue, and lips. People may experience hives, itching, or eczema. As the symptoms progress, patients may experience  swelling of the lips, face, tongue, and throat, which may lead to trouble breathing. More symptoms can include wheezing, nasal congestion, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Anyone who is experiencing these symptoms should seek medical care.
