To answer these growing demands, Mediane recently launched their Greensleeve program to which they have now added a new kraftpaper-film flowpack. ‘’We targeted the market for cut-herbs and eliminating the plastic tray and reducing the use of plastic where possible, is definitely a prerequisite in the packing of fresh produce and herbs today’’, according to Robert van der Laan.
So what they did, is create a packaging that is paper combined with home compostable film. ‘’We focus on the home-compostability of the paper/film combination whilst realizing that the visibility and presentation of the product is equally important. Nowadays combining traditional fossil (oil) based non-compostable films, with compostable paper is definitely not an option anymore. The stability of the paper together with the stiffness of the film, creates an ideal packaging for cut-herbs and makes the tray superfluous."
The material is supplied on the roll as a flow pack film, with recycled kraft against compostable film. The Kraft/flowpack combination is printable and also micro, macro perforation is possible. It will be commercially available at the end of March this year.
