Dutch multinational dairy cooperative FrieslandCampina is exploring options for constructing a dairy processing plant in the Netherlands.

The company intends to use the plant to process fresh dairy products, cheese and ingredients for the production of child and adult nutrition.

FrieslandCampina aims to build the plant in accordance with the latest insights in the area of technology and sustainability.

Additionally, the plant will enable the Dutch firm to meet the growing demand for special milk flows by increasing the flexibility of its supply chain. The plant will also accommodate anticipated growth in the coming years.

For its manufacturing facility, the company is considering a greenfield location that can accommodate the size of the facility, as well as help the company to meet sustainability and technical requirements.

The company has not disclosed details of the investment or the number of employees it intends to hire.

Milk for the new plant will be sourced from FrieslandCampina’s dairy farmers, and the products processed at the facility will be marketed and sold to local and international customers.

In January, FrieslandCampina opened a distribution centre in Meppel in the Netherlands to store and transfer dairy products to markets such as China, Hong Kong, Russia and Greece.

With a surface area of 31,000m², the facility can accommodate 43,000 pallets and covers the equivalent of five football pitches.
