Kingston Pharma, LLC of Massena, New York is recalling one lot of DG/health Naturals Baby Cough Syrup + Mucus because it may be contaminated with Bacillus cereus/Bacillus circulans. Bacillus cereus in food products can cause two syndromes: one of vomiting, and the other of diarrhea.

These illnesses are usually mild and self-limiting, meaning that patients can recover without medial care. But some populations, including infants, young children, and those with weakened immune systems, can suffer serious and even fatal illness if they ingest these pathogens. No illnesses have been reported to the company to date in connection with this problem.

The product was sold nationwide in Dollar General retail stores. The product, DG/health Naturals baby Cough Syrup + Mucus was sold in 2-fluid ounce bottles marked with Lot KL180157. The expiration date of 11/20 is stamped on the bottom of the carton and the back of the bottle label. The UPC number on this product is 8 54954 00250 0.

This problem was discovered after audit testing found the presence of the two pathogens in some bottles of this lot. One in ten bottles had low levels of Bacillus cereus and two in ten bottles had low levels of Bacillus circulars. The company has suspended production of the product while the FDA and the facility investigate this problem.

If you have purchased this product, stop giving it to your infant immediately. You can throw it away after first putting it into a container into a secure garbage can, or return it to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
