US-based supplier of organic and non-GMO products Terra Ingredients and Stone Mill have added new roasting capabilities to their service portfolio.
With the addition of the new capability, both Terra Ingredients and Stone Mill intend to create new opportunities for food producers, as well as further enhance food safety for consumers.
Terra Ingredients director Peter Carlson said: “Now our customers can enjoy the same farm-to-end-user traceability we’ve offered previously, but with custom roasting solutions as well.
“We saw the need for this value-added step near the growing region. We can provide a product that’s grown in the Dakotas or Montana and add value to the ingredient right at the source to increase cost efficiencies.”
The company noted that earlier it had to send beans to a third-party company for roasting, which resulted in increased costs.
Stone Mill said that the new fully automated roasting process has been designed to ensure continuous flow and heat consistency.
Stone Mill vice-president Daneen Dressler said: “We work directly with customers’ R&D teams to achieve their desired taste profile.
“We can neutralise flavour so your product can take on a nuttier flavour where it almost tastes like peanut butter. You can get a nutty flavour without having nuts.”
In 2000, Terra Ingredients started as AgMotion Specialty Grains in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
With its operations spread across six continents, the company creates sustainable, safe and traceable supply chains for organic and non-GMO flax, beans, pulses and grains worldwide.
In June, Terra Ingredients announced that it is all set to launch super grain fonio for food manufacturers, ingredient suppliers and leading brands in the US market.
