According to the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the almost 121, 083lb of products that are subject to recall contain soy, a known allergen that was not declared on the product labels.

Products that are being recalled include various weights of shrink-wrap packages containing ‘Blue Grass Cajun-style turkey breast’; ‘olde world Cajun-style turkey breast’; ‘Robinson’s premium Cajun-style turkey breast’; ‘trover Cajun-style turkey breast’ and ‘Troyer Cajun-style bacon’.

FSIS said that the products subject to recall bear establishment number ‘P-7417’ or ‘EST. 7417’ inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The misbranded and undeclared allergen products were distributed to various retail locations across the US, including Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia. Some turkey products may have been sold as retail-sliced deli product. The Cajun-style bacon and RTE Cajun-style turkey breast items were produced between 29 October 2018 and 19 November 2019.

Blue Grass identified the issue after its seasoning supplier notified the company that the proprietary seasoning, which is not supposed to contain soy, actually contains soy lecithin.

So far, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions as a result of the consumption of these products. FSIS said that anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers have been urged not to eat the products and to either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. The FSIS is also concerned that some products may be in restaurant freezers and has advised them not to serve these products.

The recall has been categorised as Class II, a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences following the use of the product.
