Oatly, the Swedish vegan brand, has switched its frozen non-dairy dessert range to sustainable packaging after partnering with Evergreen Packaging.

Oatly Frozen, which is made from oats rather than cow’s milk, has switched to Evergreen Packaging’s Sentinel Fully Renewable Ice Cream Board through its packaging converting partner Stanpac Packaging.

According to Evergreen, Sentinel is a “first of its kind, eco-friendly paper-based” packaging made from renewably sourced paper and coated in a sugarcane-based polyethylene.

“We are pleased to be a part of helping Oatly expand its commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing through the use of Sentinel,” said Chris Johns, Vice President of Paperboard Sales & Marketing for Evergreen Packaging.

“Oatly’s switch reinforces what we are hearing in the marketplace that the use of renewable materials is a value that is central to many brands.

“We believe it is not a trend, but the early stages of a total change in the marketplace for responsible companies.”

Murray Bain, VP of Marketing for Stanpac, added: “Since partnering with Oatly for their packaging, we have seen substantial growth. The switch to Sentinel will certainly compliment the Oatly brand and their commitment to the environment.”
