In 2019, the United States and Germany imported more than half of all the cucumber exported worldwide, specifically 55.46%, according to data from COMTRADE, the Statistics Division of the United Nations Organization (UN).
The total volume of cucumber imports in 2019 reached 2,702.6 million kilos, worth 2,381.09 million euro, and an average price of € 0.881/kg.
The United States was the leading importer with 975.22 million kilos of cucumber, i.e. 36.08% of the total. It was followed by Germany with 523.63 million kilos (19.38%), and the United Kingdom with 187.6 million kilos (6.94%).
The Netherlands ranked fourth with 109.52 million kilos (4.05%) and was followed by Russia with 99.94 million kilos (3.7%).
Russia was followed by the Czech Republic with 76.81 million kilos (2.84%), France with 72.45 million kilos (2.68%), Belgium with 69.79 million kilos (2.58 %), Poland with 63.47 million kilos (2.35%) and Canada with 52.87 million kilos (1.96%).
Spain ranked thirtieth after having imported 8.48 million kilos of cucumber worth 7.42 million euro and an average price of 0.87 €/kg.
Amounts paid by country
US cucumber imports amounted to 786.1 million euro (i.e. € 0.806/ kg), while Germany spent 528.01 million euro (€1,008/ kg), and the United Kingdom spent 193.85 million euro (€ 1,033/kg).
Dutch import totaled 113.84 million euro and an average price of € 1,039/kg, Russia paid 93.31 (€ 0.934 / kg), the Czech Republic 57.86 (€ 0.753 / kg), France 67.12 million euros (€ 0.926 / kg), Belgium invested 49.91 million (€ 0.715 / kg), Poland spent € 57.13 million (€ 0.900 / kg) and, finally, Canada invested 60.81 million euro (€ 1.15 / kg).
Suppliers
The United States bought 776.05 million kilos of cucumber from Mexico, 158.39 million kilos from Canada, and 29.08 million kilos from Honduras.
Germany's biggest supplier was Spain with 240.06 million kilos. It was followed by the Netherlands with 216.45 million kilos and Serbia with 10 million kilos.
The United Kingdom imported 87.04 million kilos of cucumber from Spain, 85.31 from the Netherlands, and 10.6 million kilos of cucumber from Germany.
The Netherlands imported 71.15 million kilos from Spain, 21.6 million from Belgium, and 12.85 million kilos from Germany.
Russia bought 24.13 million kilos from China, 18.17 from Iran, and 17.9 million kilos from Belarus.
In 2019, Spain imported 4.99 million kilos of cucumber from Morocco, 1.28 from Germany, and 0.691 from the Netherlands.
