New Zealand company Ethylene Free launched a new method of removing ethylene from cold stores this week.

According to Roger Cherry who owns the company, this method removes 99% in a single pass and costs less than 50% of existing methods while only needing a standard single phase power point.

“Existing ethylene scrubbers normally range around $30,000 plus. We will be marketing these initially at around $12,000 This product will considerably help deliver fresher produce to long distance markets.

“The plug n play coolstore unit is now available worldwide for sales and distribution from New Zealand. Our vision is to adopt a range of product sales and stockists internationally but initially we will courier from New Zealand.”

"We have also been developing a new product to provide ethylene removal in reefers. We expect to have this available in the next 6 months. We saw the need to provide a system which is economical, compact and generates its own power for operation while being simple enough for anyone to clip the unit in the reefer. It's that simple clip and go. These units will do continual voyages endlessly with a test and check annually. When you're based in New Zealand you identify the need for maximum fruit preservation for the long voyages to the northern hemisphere."
