Nactis Flavours and Trablit-ISDA new deal to form coffee extract powerhouse

Nactis Flavours, part of Nactarome Group, and Trablit-ISDA are forming a partnership to strengthen their shared space within the sweet market. The collaboration will lead to the creation of a new coffee extract division, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nactis Flavours. The financial details of the partnership were not disclosed.

Coffee and nut sourcers Trablit will gain access to beverage ingredient specialist Nactarome’s portfolio of all-in-one natural flavorings, extracts, colorings and functional ingredients for the food and beverage industry. Nactarome will strengthen its position within the natural coffee extracts segment.

Members of Nactarome Group include IPAM in Italy, Nactis Flavours in France and BNL, Create Flavours and Taste Connection in the UK, Pharmorgana GmbH in Germany and Fabbrica Italiana Aromi Speciali in Italy.

“We are very confident that the acquisition will play a part in accelerating Nactis’ ambitions through the vertical integration into key coffee extracts for our flavor creations,” says Nactis Flavours general manager, Antoine Gambart.

“Once the partnership is finalized, it will greatly benefit our customers and create a stronger and broader portfolio range for our key product lines, first and foremost in our customers in the sweet segment,” says Nactarome Group CEO Luigi Del Monaco.

Counting the beans
The coffee market continues to trend toward expansion of the specialty coffee sector, with consumer demand for high-quality coffee leading to increased NPD within the space. The debate around the health benefits or lack thereof around the world’s second most-consumed beverage continues, with a new study linking coffee to improved health benefits, although experts remain skeptical.

Despite this, scientists in Portugal have pinpointed flavonoids and alkaloids as essential compounds behind coffee’s effects against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), including in those with Type 2 diabetes. Researchers from the University of Coimbra write that coffee is well-known for “modest but significant” protection against NAFLD.

Innovations in the coffee industry continue, with Cult Food Science unveiling cell-based coffee as part of its debut new division, Cult Foods. Swiss-based coffee company Sucafina and ProfilePrint, a Singapore-based AI-driven food ingredient profiler, have jointly co-invested in Csmart, a Brazilian developer of AI-powered image recognition technologies for green coffee grading that can rapidly scan a sample of green coffee beans and accurately identify defect counts within minutes.
