The Apulian agri-food plant Masseria Fruttirossi has recently launched a pomegranate liqueur in 75 cl bottles and a pomegranate compote in 200 g jars, both composed of 65 per cent pomegranate juice squeezed from fresh fruit originating from the company's own crops.
"The operators showed an immediate interest in placing these new products on the shelves. We sent the first pallets of liqueurs and compotes (a few thousand pieces) about 40 days ago to some Italian supermarket chains, which are already our customers, and to the Horeca chain. The operators have informed us that the product is appreciated and popular, and this trend can be seen in the discrete frequency of purchases," says Dario De Lisi, sales manager of the company, talking about the two new products. “We are currently in touch with some European and non-EU partners about exporting the two novelties also to those foreign countries with whom we already have trade relations."
The pomegranate liqueur, with a low alcohol content (17% vol.) is preferred by a wider public, has a ruby red colour and a fresh, soft and velvety taste, yet retains the olfactory notes of the fresh fruit. The compote, on the other hand, contains no pectin, but only cane sugar, rice flour, maize starch and lemon juice.
The product diversification strategy implemented by Masseria Fruttirossi, in addition to intercepting new consumption habits, are aimed at expanding the Lome Super Fruit brand, thanks to its wide range of processed products.
"The pomegranate is a versatile fruit that easily adapts to various transformations and uses. With over 300 hectares dedicated to pomegranates, part of the fruit is destined for different production cycles than the fresh market supplies, as was the case with our extracted and cold-processed juices, which are now known even beyond European borders."
