Raisio has announced its plans to acquire Polish pasta company Sulma. Under the agreement, Raisio will acquire Sulma's pasta and buckwheat groats operations as well as fixed and current assets.

The deal, which is valued at €2.4m, is expected to increase Raisio's presence in Polish market and strengthen its pasta product portfolio. The purchase price will be paid in cash and Raisio will not assume liabilities of the acquired company.

Sulma is one of the leading Polish pasta brand, particularly in Western Poland. Other well-known brands of the company are Ideal and Makaron Nadodrzanski.

Raisio said that Sulma will be a part of the company's Brands Division's Eastern European operations. The 85 people employed by Sulma will be transferred to Raisio following the acquisition.

Sulma, founded in 1994, has production plants in Sulechów, near the city of Poznan, Poland. For the fiscal year ending 31 December, 2011, Sulma's net sales increased 25% to €3.9m, compared to the previous year.

Raisio is an international specialist in plant-based nutrition. Its operations are divided into two divisions: Brands and Raisioagro.
