The key European legislation in this area is the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive 94/62/EC – and explanation of this regulation takes up more than a quarter of the guide.
“The business of every company operating in Europe is affected by this legislation and by the adaptation of its requirements into national law in each EU Member State,” said Europen.
The guide also examines the CEN harmonised standards, as well as providing an analysis of the overarching legal framework in which the industry operates, said the trade body.
It includes a breakdown of packaging legislation in each of the 27 EU member states.
“Our industry’s strategy on sustainability and the legislation have both moved on significantly since the guide was last published five years ago,” said Europen managing director Veronique Bagge.
