Yoplait yogurt plant to cease operation in Ireland

Core Tip: Ireland-based food company Glanbia, which has agreed to sell Yoplait Ireland yogurt business to General Mills for €18m, has noted that this move may lead to loss of 50 manufacturing jobs in Wexford, Ireland.
The company will begin a 30-day consultation period will begin today with the employees. Glanbia has not revealed the what the future holds for the facility.

Glanbia owned the Irish division of Yoplait for over 40 years. However, US company General Mills has bought the regional franchises for Yoplait in Ireland, Britain and Canada.

Glanbia has cited competitive and scale issues and the general challenging retail environment as reasons for divesting the Yoplait Ireland yogurt business.

About 1,800 people are employed across the Glanbia group in Ireland, with 600 of them employed directly by its consumer foods business.
