Campbell, which also sells beverages and snacks, has been seeking to grow its soup business in the US. While it launched just three soup products in 2011, it introduced 27 products in its current fiscal year, and plans to add 30 products in the next fiscal.
For the third quarter of fiscal 2012, Campbell reported that its net income slipped 5% to $177m, compared to $187m in the previous quarter, due to higher commodity costs and low soup sales.
Sales for the quarter totalled $1.82bn, up from $1.81bn in the same quarter the previous year.
