Core Tip: Molson Coors Brewing Company announced today that it has received approval from the European Competition Commission regarding its $3.54bn acquisition of Central and Eastern European brewer StarBev, initially announced on April 3 2012.
This approval for the US-Canadian brewer of Carling and Blue Moon follows those of the Serbian Commission for the Protection of Competition and the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine.

The Commission's investigation concluded that the transaction would not significantly alter the market structure, given the relatively low combined market shares of the parties and the presence of a number of credible competitors.

One particular focus was the potential effects of the acquisition on the production and distribution of beer in the UK - the only market within the European Economic Area (EEA) where StarBev and Molson Coors' activities now overlap.
