In early August, Hedlund will take over direction of the GAA communications team and assist in expanding the organization's outreach to aquaculture stakeholders around the world.
"Steven Hedlund will support the work of our associates throughout the GAA organisation and Best Aquaculture Practices programme," GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens said. "With his assistance, we hope to reach even more people in aquaculture and seafood regarding the benefits of responsible aquaculture."
Mr Hedlund combines education in the fields of journalism and mass communications with nearly 13 years of experience in the seafood industry. He most recently served as editor of SeafoodSource.com, the daily online news publication of Diversified Business Communications. As a writer and editor for Diversified since 1999, Mr Hedlund helped build the SeafoodSource brand and establish a social media programme to expand the brand's reach.
"I'm elated by the opportunity to represent GAA, it's a first-class organisation," MrHedlund said. "I'm looking forward to helping further GAA's communication programme by expanding the organisation's audience and continuing to spread the good word about the BAP programme. As aquaculture plays a bigger and bigger role in feeding the world's population, the need to communicate the benefits of responsible aquaculture only grows."
