During the visit to the Fish Hatchery in Chilya, Mr Shah inspected the fish breeding cycle and stressed the need for the enhancement of the production capacity of the hatchery and producing quality high-value fish besides development of the indigenous species and stressed the need for fish nursing centres in each district in the province, reports TheNews

Mr Shah advised the transfer of this technology to the private hatchery operators/farmers through training.

He observed that the introduction of breeding technology of Red Tilapia fish and GIFT Tilapia fish would open new avenues of aquaculture in the province and open export markets for Sindh.

He also released about 100,000 fish eggs of Mirgal, Rohu, Gulfam and Grass Carp into Keenjhar Lake.

Mr Shah said that the government had taken many steps for the welfare of fishermen such as the establishment of Model Fishermen’s villages, landing platforms, jetties, R.O. plants, provision of fishing gear, and stocking of seed into major public water bodies.

The Secretary also witnessed the feeding trials being conducted in cages installed at Keenjher Lake with the assistance of American Soybean Association and the Fisheries Development Board.
