Core Tip: Uganda has signed an agreement with South Korea to build a fruit processing factory in Teso region, a move which is expected to promote industrial growth in the country.
The $7.4m project is being funded by South Korea through its central development aid agency, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Uganda will provide $2.2m for the project through Uganda Development Corporation (UDC), which will be used for road network, water, electricity and construction of waste treatment plant, among others, reported Newvision.co.ug.

KOICA in partnership with UDC will set up the factory, install equipment and provide materials required for functioning of the factory. The aid agency is also expected to conduct invitational training.

The construction of the factory is expected to be completed in 2014.

Teso region is one of the leading producers of citrus fruits in Uganda, with nearly three million fruit trees, and a production capacity of about 600,000 metric tons of fruit annually.
