Russia is imposing a ban on food imports from several companies in China, Spain, and Australia beginning 9 September 2012, over contamination concerns.

Rosselkhoznadzor, Russia's federal veterinary and phytosanitary oversight service, noted that the ban would affect beef from Australia's JBS Australia, where mesophilic anerobic and facultative anerobic microorganisms were detected.

A shipment of pork from Frecarn in Spain was found to be contaminated with listeria, while frozen mussels from China's Rizhao Longxing were found be contaminated with E-coli.

The watchdog has imposed a temporary ban on these companies since these cases were repeat violations, reported Kyivpost.com.

Rosselkhoznadzor also noted that imports from other companies in India, Uruguay, France, Ukraine, Argentina, and Moldova were found to be contaminated. Since these are first offenses, these companies will be put under surveillance.
