Mission to change the UK's vinegar

Core Tip: Inspired by the culinary habits of mainland Europe, a Wigan manufacturer is on a mission to alter the UK's perception of vinegar.
Ellsey's supplies bulk vinegar to over 600 customers in the food industry in the UK and Germany, Malta, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Staff regularly take business trips to France, Holland, Italy and Spain to keep up to date with the latest industry trends and changes.

Inspired by these experiences, the firm is launching two ranges inspired by the way our European counterparts use vinegar: fruit vinegars for salads and desserts and spicy chip shop vinegars.

The chip shop selection includes flavours such as chilli and garlic while the fruity dessert vinegars come in six varieties. There are also high quality balsamic vinegars in the pipeline, which Ellsey's says will be pitched to retailers across the region before the end of the year.

Ellsey's md Shaun Roberts says:
"Now is the right time to make innovative changes. These products could really change the perceptions of vinegar in the UK and diversify the current sector.

"With more than 80 years of experience, we can successfully bring these products to market."
