In a final rule published last month, the EPA increased the allowable concentration of Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium in carbonate and bicarbonate forms, from 240 parts per million to 400 ppm.
DDACB can be used on food contact surfaces when applied or used in public eating places, dairy processing equipment, and/or food processing equipment and utensils.
Objections and requests for hearings must be received on or before 22 October.
In December last year the EPA issued a notice announcing the filing of a pesticide tolerance petition by Lonza, a producer and supporter of active pharmaceutical ingredients and microbial control.
The petition requested that 40 CFR 180.940(a), be amended by establishing concentration limits for DDACB in end use solutions eligible for tolerance exemption.
