The German government has donated €150,000 to a global initiative that aims to help developing countries meet international standards on food, animal and plant health.

The Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) is run by the World Trade Organization, the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the World Organization for Animal Health, and the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Germany’s latest donation will bring its Germany’s overall contribution to WTO trust funds to around €16.8m.

Germany’s WTO ambassador Hanns Schumacher said: “For Germany, assisting developing countries to improve their capacity to participate in international trade is a key aim. This will enable them to gain and maintain market access. As we are going through a troubled economic time, expanding market opportunities is important as trade is a tool for growth and development.”
