The Karnataka Cooperative Milk Federation Ltd, represented by its 2 million milk producer members, has condoled the demise of Dr Verghese Kurien, father of Indian dairy industry.

Dr Kurien always had a special place in the hearts of milk producers of Karnataka, for his immense contribution to the cooperative dairy development in the state. He has been an inspiration and icon to millions of milk producers in Karnataka. He has left a vacuum in the Indian dairy sector, according to Dr M N Venkataramu, MD, KMF.

During January 2012, the milk producers of Karnataka had an opportunity to honour Dr Kurien, which was his last public function, he added.
