Mary McClure is in no hurry, but she has began construction on a fast-food hamburger stand at 815 E. Putnam Ave., just east of Legget Street.

“It’s my last project — hopefully,” said McClure who has been developing property in Porterville for decades along with her husband, Clint.

“It took me five years to get the permit and they still charged me too much,” she said.

While work has begun, McClure is in no hurry to finish the project. She said it will take two to three months to complete. She jokingly refers to it as the “Last Stand,” but said she does not know what it will be called.

“I plan on leasing it out,” she said, adding the person who sets up the business we get to call it whatever they want.

She said the building will have a drive up window, an indoor counter and some seating both inside and out.

“It will be a drive-thru like the one on Olive,” she said of the Juicy Burger on West Olive Ave.
“I’ve got two or three people interested in it right now,” she said of possible tenants.

Pointing out there are few such restaurants on the east side, especially in that area, McClure said, “It’s going to be a nice little asset for the east side.”
