Ardagh has invested €10m in a two piece drawn, walled and ironed (DWI) food can line in the Czech Republic.
The investment at its plant in Znojmo will enable increased production of canned food for the Czech, Polish, Austrian and Hungarian markets with production starting at the end of the year.
Tim Clarke, sales director for metal food Europe, said the investment comes in their fourth DWI plant in Europe.
“In these challenging economic times it is essential that we continue to invest in processes and technologies that deliver sustainable economic benefits to our customers.
“DWI is a more efficient can making process which offers the potential for further down gauging of material, bringing both financial and environmental benefits. Our recent experiences confirm that the DWI can is the can for the future.”
The news follows an announcement made earlier this year with the firm investing €4m in a Ukrainian food can line and predicting rapid growth for the region.
