The company showcased the XE 100 CC Compact, the first product inspection machine integrating checkweighing and metal detection capability at the event.
The equipment was aimed at bulk food manufacturers that needed to combine both functions on a single, short conveyor, said the firm.

The XE 100 CC Compact model can inspect up to 80 products per minute, ranging in sizes up to 60kg per package.

Precise, consistent weighing

Highly accurate load cell technology ensured precise, consistent weighing, the company said. Products that are not within the weight range are stopped on the conveyor and trigger an alarm.

The model offers a small metal free zone of 150mm for non-movable parts and 300mm for movable parts.

“The XE 100 CC Compact represents a new generation of combined checkweighing and metal detection technology,” said Kerstin Bernhart, marketing manager, Mettler-Toledo Garvens.

Overcomes space constraint issues

“The system overcomes space constraint issues and offers efficiency and peace of mind to manufacturers who are concerned with regulatory compliance, consumer safety and brand integrity.”

Also at FachPack, Mettler-Toledo also launched its new CLS Series, designed to accurately verify and inspect labels and printing for seal integrity at high throughput speeds, while minimising downtime.

The CLS Series features Linescan Technology, which consists of a single row of pixel sensors rather than a traditional digital camera lens. This enables manufacturers to inspect individual packages for correct information, positioning and seal integrity without reducing production speeds.

The technology can verify top and bottom labels simultaneously and its cameras adjust for products ranging from 25mm to 100mm in height.

Minimise downtime

To minimise downtime caused by maintenance and production changeovers, the CLS Series features a user-friendly touch screen display which allows for easy set up.

The system features pre-set label recipes containing weight, pricing and other product information, facilitating quick product changeovers and optimising flexibility on food packaging lines.

“Food labelling initiatives and EU Regulation 1169/2011 are making it increasingly necessary for food manufacturers to ensure that their products are correctly labelled with clear and legible consumer information,” said Ralph Swinka, head of marketing, Mettler-Toledo Product Inspection Division, Germany.

“With accurate automatic inspection systems, manufacturers can track and trace all of their products throughout the supply chain.

“This protects consumers, enhances brand reputation and offers greater production line efficiency.”
