Suffolk Fire and Rescue told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “We were called to an automatic fire alarm at the Birds Eye factory on Whapload Road in Lowestoft. Crews found a fire in one of the fryers and requested an additional fire engine.”

Extinguished quickly

Two appliances attended the fire which was extinguished quickly. A foam blanket was used to cover the fryer.

A spokesman for Birds Eye said: “We can confirm a small fire broke out at our Lowestoft site this morning shortly after 5am. It was a minor incident that was quickly contained and no one was hurt. We will investigate the cause fully but the site is now back to normal and fully operational.”
