Norwegian supplier Rimfrost and botanical extraction company Avoca have reacted to a global spike in demand for krill oil by agreeing a joint venture to produce and process the omega-3-rich product.
Rimfrost said that the new joint venture will produce around 600 tonnes of krill oil per year – equal to the current annual worldwide production. The firms said that the joint venture will enable them to tap into soaring global demand for krill oil supplements and that the krill would be fished from sustainable Antarctic stocks.
“It (the joint venture) ensures our customers are receiving an extremely high quality krill oil, extracted in a cGMP facility, with traceability from krill that are collected in an environmentally sustainable manner,” said David Peele, Avoca’s president.
