Japan's Ajinomoto Frozen Foods Co. has restarted production at its Ajinomoto Frozen Foods (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (AFT) unit, which had been closed in late 2011 due to flood damage in Thailand.
To enhance competitiveness, AFT has cut the number of products it manufactures from 23 to two: Tender Fried Chicken (volume pack), an important item for the retail market in Japan, and Gyoza products for export to Europe and Asia. It has also secured supply capacity and space for increasing production for future growth.
While AFT itself was shut down, production was shifted to key facilities in Lopburi Province including Ajinomoto Betagro Frozen Foods (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (TAB) and Ajinomoto Betagro Specialty Foods Co., Ltd. (ABS). Resuming production at AFT has eliminated the risk of single-sourced production of Tender Fried Chicken (volume pack), which had been produced only at TAB since the flood.
